Laura Johnson, MSW, LICSW

Healthy, loving relationships with ourselves and others are both necessary and immensely difficult. Our identities, family histories, and experiences of trauma, stress, and injustice affect how we relate to ourselves, others, and the challenges that life brings. Our therapeutic relationship will give you a space to bring what feels hard so that we can look at it together. My job is to listen to what you say--with your words, with your body, and with your energy--and to what may be left unsaid, or has yet to be spoken. Together we will be deeply curious about all of you, explore what is painful, enraging, or frightening, and find new ways of relating and being.

I believe there is no one "right" way to heal or to live, and am grateful to have had many wise teachers in my lifetime. My practice is informed by many years as a therapist, teacher, and organizer. I draw on attachment theory and psychoanalytic theory, spirituality, mindfulness, and the wisdom of different communities fighting oppression in the past and present. I have experience addressing issues related to trauma and stress, life transitions, LGBTQ identity, experiences of racism, grief, and anxiety. Starting therapy can be daunting for anyone, especially if healthcare systems have been unwelcoming or harmed you and your community. I'm committed to changing the ways that white supremacy culture operates in myself, our relationship, and therapy as a field. I engage in regular consultation, supervision, and therapy of my own to support this work
